Any portion of this syllabus may be changed at any time at the discretion of the instructor to best meet the needs of the class.

homework & quizzes (15%)
Quizzes will be given over the assigned readings, podcasts and videos. Homework includes, but is not limited to the following:

blog analysis
Chose a blog similar in topic to the one you plan to keep and write a 2-4 page rhetorical analysis of it.

blog design plan
A 2-page proposal for your blog project.

website design plan
A 2-page proposal for web project #2.

reading summaries
You will turn in three reading summaries on the book you have chosen for the TED Talk/Wired essay projects (see unit one schedule for exact dates).

unit one
blog (15%)
Each student will maintain a blog on a topic of his/her choice and post to it weekly for ten weeks. Posts are due Thursdays at the start of class.

TED talk (15%)
This is a group project. You will choose one of four available topics and its corresponding book. You will partner up with two other classmates who have chosen the same topic/book, and using the book as the starting point for your research design and deliver a 15-minute TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Talk to the class.

Wired essay (15%)
Using your chosen TED talk topic you will write an argument-based essay designed for Wired magazine (or a similar technology publication).

unit two
web project #1 (15%)
For project 1, you will develop your resume or vita as a valid XHTML document. You will also style this document using two CSS files (one for screen and one for print viewing) with basic selectors and properties to control typography and color. (detailed instructions to follow)

web project #2 (25%)
For project 2, the major project for unit two, you will continue the work of project one to build your complete web presence. You will use advanced CSS selectors and layout/positioning methods. (detailed instructions to follow)
